Summary:

The South Australian Arid Lands Natural Resource Management Board (SAAL) commissioned DC Solutions and Yarramine to undertake an aerial survey of the feral pig population in the Lower Diamantina River region of far south-western Queensland and far north-eastern South Australia.

The survey area covered 5,155km2 of the lower Diamantina River system between Lake Uloowaranie in South Australia and the southern edge of the Diamantina National Park in Queensland.  Overall, an estimated density of feral pigs in the lower Diamantina River system during the survey was 5.2 ± 0.7 pigs/km2.  This equated to a population of 26,800 ± 3,600 at the time.
