Public consultation has commenced on the revised Australian Pest Animal Strategy 2017 to 2027 and the Australian Weeds Strategy 2017 to 2027.
The Australian Pest Animal Strategy (APAS) and Australian Weeds Strategy (AWS) are vital to Australia’s biosecurity system. Pest animals and weeds have major economic, environmental and social impacts if not managed effectively.
The strategies are almost ten years old, and are being revised to improve consistency with new biosecurity policies; to set national goals and priorities to ensure a consistent approach to the management of pest animals and weeds.
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources is seeking feedback on thier proposed revisions to the Australian Pest Animal Strategy and Australian Weeds Strategy 2017 to 2027.
Submissions on the draft strategies will close at 5 pm AEST on the 14 October 2016.
Feedback will help shape the revised strategies, before they are submitted to the National Biosecurity Committee for endorsement prior to publication in early 2017.
